What's New for the Cadillac XT5

This year marks the last time the XT5 will be sold in the U.S., as Cadillac is transitioning to becoming an all-electric brand. As such, the model enters the new year with few changes. These include a trio of appearance packages: Blue Accent, Bronze Accent, and Red Accent. Finally, there are new exterior paint options for the Sport called Emerald Lake Metallic and Midnight Sky Metallic.

A Refined Design

As midsize SUVs go, the XT5 is smaller than your average model. That said, it's still more affordable than other midsize rivals, and it has one of the largest cargo capacities in the class. The exterior has a nice large front grille accented by its unique angular headlights. With the rest of the body retaining most of the hallmarks of a standard SUV.

As for the cabin, the legroom is spacious, and the materials used throughout are upscale. The layout, too, is good, offering agreeable driving positions for ample view of the road. Plus, the cargo space is very generous as it can hold ten carry-on cases with the rear seat up and 24 bags with them down.

Performance

Every new XT5 is powered by one of two powertrain options. The base powertrain is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 235 horsepower four-cylinder, while the other is a 3.6-liter 310 horsepower V6. Each engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive comes standard. But, all-wheel drive is optional and standard in the highest two trims.

Fuel Economy

According to the EPA's findings, XT5 has an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder. With the V6, those estimates drop to 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Adding all-wheel drive lowers these estimates once more to 28 mpg in the four-cylinder and 23 mpg with the V6.

Robust Technology

Throughout the XT5 trims, Alpharetta and Roswell drivers will find an abundance of tech. The center display runs on the CUE infotainment system, and an eight-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are all standard. Upgrade to the Premium Luxury and Sport models, and navigation and a 14-speaker Bose audio system become available. Four USB ports are located throughout the cabin for convenient charging, and a wireless phone charging pad is available between the two front seats.

Surrounded by Safety

Whether you're driving to work in Sandy Springs or taking your kids to school in Johns Creek, the new XT5 will keep you safe. Forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure mitigation, and front and rear parking sensors are all standard features. While higher trims offer blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and a surround-view camera system.

Trim Levels and Unique Features

The Cadillac XT5 is available in three trims: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport.

Luxury: As the first trim offered, the Luxury features a fair number of amenities. These include LED headlights with automatic high beams, heated exterior mirrors, a power liftgate, plus an eight-speaker Bose audio system.

Premium Luxury: This mid-tier trim adds even more luxuries to the mix, such as a panoramic sunroof, ambient interior lighting, leather upholstery, and a 14-speaker Bose sound system.

Sport: Being the highest trim in the lineup, the Sport includes all of the Premium Luxury trim's standard features plus a sport-tuned all-wheel-drive system, sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, and upgraded front Brembo brakes.
