2023 Cadillac XT6 vs 2023 Lincoln Aviator

The Cadillac XT6 for 2022 and the Lincoln Aviator are both superb luxury mid-size SUVs. Both the Lincoln brand and the Cadillac brand were invented by a man named Henry Leland who established two of the most enduring luxury names in America. Both these outstanding models give you three rows of comfortable seating for up to seven people. But at Classic Cadillac of Atlanta in Atlanta GA, we believe the Cadillac XT6 is the better choice. Here are some of the reasons why.

Comparing engines and performance

The Cadillac XT6 runs with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine or a 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers 310 horsepower. The Lincoln Aviator has a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 under the hood that's good for 400 horsepower. While the Lincoln Aviator has more power than the Cadillac XT6, you end up paying a significant price in fuel economy both in the city and on the highway. The reality is that both these luxury mid-size SUV's can give you all the power you need.

Comparing fuel economy

The Cadillac XT6 gives you an outstanding 21 MPG on city streets and up to 27 MPG on the highway with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The Lincoln Aviator makes you pay for its superior performance every time you fill up the tank. The Aviator's EPA-estimated fuel efficiency isn't very fuel efficient: It's 18 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. At a time of significantly elevated gasoline prices, we believe Lincoln is charging you more than you should have to pay.

A comparison of exteriors

Both the Cadillac XT6 and the Lincoln Aviator are graced with a bold new design and an authoritative presence on the roadway. If you want a slightly wider and longer three-row SUV, the Lincoln Aviator can give you that extra space. If you plan to drive in tighter areas, the Cadillac XT6 is one of the best options you can buy.

A comparison of interiors

The Cadillac XT6 and the Lincoln Aviator both feature upscale materials and handsome styling in a manner you would expect in an American luxury SUV. The Cadillac XT6, however, makes it easier to reach the controls and the infotainment system because of a new rotary knob and conventional control toggles. The Cadillac XT6 also comes out ahead with more third row headroom and legroom and more cargo space when the second and third row seats are folded down. The Cadillac XT6 gives you a standard dual pane sunroof but the Lincoln Aviator makes you pay extra for it.

A comparison of infotainment technology

The Cadillac XT6 gives you Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ as standard equipment. Also included is Cadillac's IntelliBeam headlights, wireless device charging and a hands-free lift gate. A rotary controller is included with Cadillac but not with the Lincoln Aviator. Other things the Lincoln Aviator doesn't have include a surround vision recorder, a safety alert seat, a rear camera mirror and night vision. Once again, the Cadillac XT6 comes out ahead.

A comparison of value

The Cadillac XT6 is the better choice in other important ways. For one thing, the Cadillac XT6 has a base price that's about $3,000 less than that of the Lincoln Aviator. While the Lincoln Aviator received a Top Safety Pick designation from the IIHS, the Cadillac XT6 did even better with a Top Safety Pick+ award.
